MENTORING MUALAF – Equipping Mentors, Strengthening the Mualaf Journey

Alhamdulillah, on 5–6 September 2026, IDT organised the Mentoring Mualaf programme at Dawah Academy International, Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur, with sponsorship from MAIWP. The two-day programme brought together both mualaf and Born Muslim participants who were eager to learn how to better support and guide mualaf with the right approach, wisdom, and understanding.

Led by Bro Lim Jooi Soon, Master Trainer IDT, and Ustaz Amin Yaacob, Master Trainer, the programme focused on the practical challenges faced by mualaf and how mentors can respond to these challenges with patience, knowledge, and hikmah. Through discussions and mualaf case studies, participants explored various situations involving issues such as syirik, misconceptions, and challenges in understanding and practising Islam. These discussions helped participants understand how to approach each situation carefully and identify suitable ways to guide mualaf according to their individual circumstances.

Participants also discussed how to respond to questions commonly raised by mualaf and how to explain matters of faith and Islamic teachings in a way that is clear, sensitive, and appropriate. The sessions highlighted the importance of understanding a mualaf’s background, concerns, and level of understanding when providing guidance. Throughout the programme, participants actively engaged in discussions, case-study sessions, and practical learning activities. These sessions allowed them to exchange perspectives, reflect on real-life situations, and gain a better understanding of the different challenges mualaf may experience after embracing Islam.

For IDT, the programme is part of an ongoing effort to build a stronger support system for mualaf. IDT hopes that participants will be able to apply what they have learned in their communities, respond to mualaf with greater understanding, and provide appropriate guidance when they face questions or challenges in their journey. Through this programme, IDT aims to equip more people with the knowledge and practical skills needed to support mualaf with wisdom, patience, and understanding, so that they do not have to navigate their journey in Islam without proper guidance and support.
